Leadership Luncheon with Ben Carroll MP

Victoria’s Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Medical Research The Hon Ben Carroll MP provided an insightful address to Committee for Melbourne members which was centred around what ‘makes him tick’: policy and world’s best practice.

The Deputy Premier highlighted that great things can be achieved when government works with the private sector and signalled that the Government is progressing its business and economic agenda with several positive announcements likely before the end of the calendar year.

The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) sponsored event at Crown Resorts Melbourne was attended by 50 members and hosted by Committee Chief Executive Scott Veenker and MCB CEO Julia Swanson.

Mr Carroll’s stated vision for Victoria’s future is that it provides lifelong learning options from early childhood to mature age. He also wants Victoria to become a world leader in mental health, with wellbeing support services that provide empathy, structure and relief.

He also believes that Victoria must stand as a global leader in the creation of a zero-emissions, renewable workforce.

The event explored various challenges and opportunities facing our city today including the energy transition, skills shortages, international student caps, education and lifelong learning and safety.

The Deputy Premier also voiced his support for the Airport Rail, as well as Melbourne Airport’s third runway: projects for which the Committee has also been a strong advocate.

Mr Veenker said: “Thank you for your time and for always being so accessible to the business community Ben Carroll.

“These exclusive events provide a fantastic opportunity to learn more about what makes our leaders tick while also networking with our peers.”
