Committee for Melbourne has started answering this question annually in the Benchmarking Melbourne report.
The report is based upon a review of the latest editions of more than 100 global city benchmark studies and assesses Melbourne against 20 peer cities. The reports first edition was produced in 2022 and received wide recognition among Melbourne thought leaders.
The second Benchmarking Melbourne 2023 report was launched at Committee for Melbourne’s event ‘The Melbourne Summit’ on Thursday 2 March 2023.
Committee for Melbourne works with The Business of Cities and JLL to produce this inaugural report. Under three pillars that defines what shapes a great city:
- Future Economy
- Infrastructure and Sustainability
- Liveability and Urban Optimisation
In the decade before COVID-19 hit, Melbourne became popularly known as one of the world’s most liveable cities. More recently, Melbourne is projected to be the largest city in Australia by 2031. A yearly review of the dynamics and inner workings of Greater Melbourne will help the city understand how resilient its liveability is, spot new trends and see opportunities to make the city stronger.
