Launch Housing
Launch Housing is one of Melbourne’s largest independent and secular community-based organisations that bring housing and homelessness solutions together under one roof. Our mission is to end homelessness. In our support of over 15,000 people last year through the spectrum of crisis accommodation all the way to permanent supported housing, two areas remain key. The first is with ‘families and new beginnings’ providing children, families and young people the opportunity to build an optimistic future. Second, we focus on ‘health and wellbeing’ because housing is healthcare and in a progressive city such as Melbourne, no one should be living and dying on our streets.
Ending street homelessness is a team effort. Many voices are needed to help drive this change – including yours. We have launched the Melbourne Zero campaign to help normalize solutions, solidarity, and public support for the vision of a Melbourne that is recognized around the world as world leading in ending homelessness. For more details on how you can join the Melbourne Zero Network, check out the campaign at melbournezero.org.au.

The Australian Ballet
The Australian Ballet is the largest classical ballet company in Australia. It was founded by J. C. Williamson Theatres Ltd. and the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust in 1962, with the English-born dancer, teacher, repetiteur and director Dame Peggy van Praagh as founding artistic director. Today, it is recognised as one of the world’s major international ballet companies.
Today the company is based in Melbourne; its Southbank headquarters is the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre, named after its long term supporter Lady (Primrose) Potter. The company regularly tours to mainland state capital cities within Australia, with lengthy seasons in Melbourne at the State Theatre (accompanied by Orchestra Victoria) and in Sydney at the Sydney Opera House. Other regular venues are the Lyric Theatre at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane, and the Adelaide Festival Centre in Adelaide. The company also tours internationally, and performs annually in an intimate outdoor setting on Hamilton Island.

Western Melbourne Tourism
Melbourne’s West is poised for major growth in the visitor economy. The region receives over four million visitors each year, with the most recent research showing Melbourne’s West will be the fastest growing tourism sub-region in metropolitan Melbourne over the next decade.
The value of the local visitor economy is substantial. For Melbourne’s west the visitor economy contributes around 12,000 jobs (Source REMPLAN 2018) being 4.5% of the region’s employment. The value of the visitor economy is estimated to be $1.45 billon GRP (2017 Satellite Accounts). Melbourne’s west as a subregion of Melbourne provides an economic contribution which is easily the equivalent of the most prominent tourism regions outside of Melbourne, at similar levels to Geelong and Bellarine, Gippsland and Goldfields.
Western Melbourne Tourism Inc (WMT) is an association incorporated for the purposes of promoting and fostering the growth of the visitor sector across Melbourne’s western metropolitan region. WMT operates on a membership model primarily funded by the cities of Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley, Brimbank, and Melton. It is overseen by an independent board with representation from these six western metropolitan councils, as well as Parks Victoria and Victoria University and representatives from the region’s tourism industry and arts sector.
There are substantial developments for the region in the pipeline including the Melbourne Airport Rail Link, the continued growth of Avalon Airport as a second international air terminal, the Werribee Open Range Zoo Masterplan, Scienceworks Museum of the Future and the proposed new Western United A-League soccer Stadium at Tarneit. These developments will further add to the economic value of the visitor economy.
As a regional board WMT is cognisant of the growth opportunities and the need to prepare for them. Our organisation offers a partnership between Councils, universities, tourism operators and local businesses with a dedicated focus on the visitor economy. We endeavor to work proactively with industry bodies including the Victoria Tourism Industry Council and Visit Victoria, as well as the Committee for Melbourne now, to build awareness around the substantial opportunities for our region and Greater Melbourne.

All of us have a responsibility to shift the attitudes and social practises that perpetuate violence against women. We must end a culture that tolerates disrespect, sexual harassment, assault, and outdated gender standards and power structures.
