Meet the Minister – The Hon. Melissa Horne MP
On Tuesday 12 September 2023, we were delighted to work with Corrs Chambers Westgarth to bring our members a special ‘Meet the Minister’ lunchtime event with The Honourable Melissa Horne MP – Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Minister for Local Government, Minister for Roads and Safety, and Minister for Ports and Freight.
Minister Horne discussed her vision for integrated freight planning within a broader strategic plan for Melbourne. She also outlined government initiatives across various areas, including the regulation and management of road and rail infrastructure, sustainability initiatives aimed at improving air quality and meeting emissions reductions targets, the importance of freight as a sector for Melbourne and road construction and maintenance projects.
Mark Melvin, CEO – Committee for Melbourne moderated a panel discussion with Minister Kilkenny, Caryn Anderson, CEO – Port of Melbourne, Joseph Barbaro, Partner in Charge – Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and Leanne Edwards, Director Policy & Advocacy – Committee for Melbourne. Panellists shared insights into improving freight outcomes that will cater to Melbourne’s growing population, the need for government and the private sector to work together to achieve investment priorities, the need for an integrated transport plan and cross-sectoral collaboration and how to attract more workers, including women, into the freight and logistics sector.
