Airport Link

Improving Melbourne’s regional, interstate and global links.

Our Position

Our Airport Link Taskforce is calling for a world-class, fast and reliable, rail service, to be constructed from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, to Melbourne Airport, via Sunshine. The service must run for 20 minutes (or less) and independently of the current commuter train system.

We have encouraged the State and Federal governments to consider the wider strategic implications when analysing the various proposals. There is real opportunity to not only unlock the state’s west and regions, but to activate Australia’s east coast through linkage with a future high speed rail line connecting Melbourne, Sydney, and beyond.

Airport link: from concept to commencement

The capacity to transport large volumes of people from the regions, the west and airport is the primary problem that must be addressed. The Committee developed five guiding principles as part of this unsolicited submission, which we encouraged authorities to consider as part of the business case process.
