Each year, Committee for Melbourne recognises the outstanding achievements of both individuals and organisations through the Melbourne Achiever Award. First awarded in 1993, the award has recognised the extraordinary efforts of proud Melburnians and Melbourne-based organisations for almost 30 years.
Committee for Melbourne believes that the collaborative and inspiring work of Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation – being at the forefront of community philanthropy for the last 100 years – is a wonderful story to tell and celebrate.
As Australia’s largest independent community foundation, Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation inspires philanthropy to create positive social change. The Foundation’s grants program supports impact Areas including Homelessness & Affordable Housing; Inclusive, Sustainable Economy & Jobs; and Healthy & Climate Resilient Communities; as well as providing a range of philanthropic services for donors.
The 2023 Melbourne Achiever Award – organisation, not only recognises the long-standing history as Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation celebrates its centenary year and its significant contribution to Greater Melbourne over that time – but also highlights its continuing work to support not-for-profits and charities throughout our city. The Foundation has stood with Melburnians through disasters, COVID, challenges such as homelessness and unemployment, and is now also working to support a just climate transition.
Over the past three years, the Foundation has provided almost $36 million in grants, and $197 million since 1923, to not-for-profit organisations across Greater Melbourne – working in areas such as community resilience, disaster preparedness and recovery, climate change action, sustainable jobs, and affordable housing.
The Foundation continues to place Melbourne at the centre of our future, by making decisions today, that will help shape the future we all want for Melbourne.
The Melbourne Achiever Award – Organisation, was presented to Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation at Committee for Melbourne’s, 2023 Annual Dinner Committee for Melbourne’s 2023 Annual Dinner at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Goldfields Event Space in the presence of Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC CVO, Governor of Victoria, and Committee for Melbourne Patron. The Award was accepted on behalf of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, by its Chair, Paul Bird.
