15.06.2022Victoria University’s new presence in Melbourne’s CBD

In late April, Victoria University opened the VU City Tower, Australia’s highest vertical campus. This latest educational landmark in Melbourne’s CBD embodies a university campus of the future with state-of-the-art facilities. The 32-level Tower on Queen Street and Little Lonsdale Street in the heart of Melbourne’s legal precinct, is adjacent to VU’s College of Law & Justice, Sir Zelman Cowen Centre, Law library and Moot Courts.

VU City Tower consolidates a number of VU’s former city facilities into a 5-star green-rated, industry-leading building. It represents the University’s vision to bring the future of learning to its students by integrating industry partnerships into its courses.  The City Tower is home to select university and TAFE courses in business, health, beauty, education and English language.

Industry partners are located on VU’s doorstep and on-campus, contributing to the design of its courses, and highlighting VU’s ‘flipped campus’ approach where industry is at the core of each campus. This offers seamless synergies between students, staff and partners, and means everyone benefits from the networks, practical experience and real-world expertise provided in areas such as VU’s world-class practical-teaching clinics.

These student-centric spaces are designed to encourage collaboration, and provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment that gives students the confidence and skills to excel in their careers.

The VU City Tower contains a selection of dynamic and interactive learning spaces, including: purpose-built practical classrooms; clinics for smaller groups; informal learning spaces furnished with lounge chairs and banquettes to collaborate, network and study; and individual focused study spaces.

VU’s Dermal and Osteopathy Clinics, along with its Hair, Beauty & Massage salons are on Levels 19 and 20 with wonderful views of the CBD and inner suburbs of Melbourne.  Other university services such as the library, student lounges, and student support and wellbeing services are connected to other spaces such as a parents’ room and a pride room.  Other highlights include:

  • a ‘Boardroom of the Future’ with CISCO next-generation meeting-room technology that will bring people together both virtually and physically; and
  • Australia’s first SAP Academy, a globally recognised program that will help VU graduates obtain the right skills for future-focused IT jobs.

VU announced that the Industry Capability Network – Victoria is its first Tower tenant, meaning close alignment and opportunities for VU students to work with ICNV, and for VU to be across major projects that will only grow across the West of Melbourne and beyond.

“This is the future of education. It reflects our ambitious vision to become a global leader in dual-sector learning and research,” VU Vice Chancellor & President, Professor Shoemaker said.

We welcome the community to come visit, experience our amazing student-led salons, and see what we are very proud of at Victoria University.

VU City Tower is located at 370 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
