11.11.2024Nick Reece wins election to be Melbourne Lord Mayor

Nick Reece will be Lord Mayor of Melbourne, and Roshena Campbell Deputy Lord Mayor, after their win at the Council Elections 2024.

The Committee for Melbourne congratulated both on their election. The incumbent Lord Mayor’s experience on Council, including the past few months in the role, position him well to hit the ground running.

Mr Reece was first elected as a councillor in 2016. He was then elected Deputy Lord Mayor in November 2020, and on 2 July 2024 was sworn in as Lord Mayor at a Special meeting of Council following the resignation of Sally Capp.

The Lord Mayor has previously worked as a senior adviser to Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Victorian premiers Steve Bracks and John Brumby. He is the former chair of global men’s health charity Movember and was a director for the street newspaper The Big Issue.

The Lord Mayor has engaged with the Committee and Victorian Chamber throughout the 2024 election campaign, including during our Lord Mayoral Election event.

We look forward to working closely with the new leadership team to drive growth, enhance liveability, and solidify Melbourne as Australia’s top city for living, working, learning, and business.

Committee for Melbourne Chief Executive Scott Veenker said: “This is a pivotal moment for Melbourne as we work together to address both the challenges and opportunities facing our city and communities, our economy and our future.

“We look forward to collaborating with the new leadership team to strengthen Melbourne’s position as one which benefits all those who live, work and invest here.

“Congratulations to Lord Mayor Reece and Deputy Lord Mayor Campbell—we look forward to achieving great things together for Melbourne.”
