The Committee for Melbourne hosted its first Best Practice Forum of 2025, hosted by Committee member and leading commercial real estate firm CBRE.
The forum, Creating Engaging and Productive Workplaces, featured insights and expertise on the intersections between people, workplaces and policy, showcasing cutting-edge research, case studies and valuable insights from both the public and private sectors
Expert panellists included Jill Garner, Government Architect at the Victorian Government, Dr. John Hopkins, PhD, Associate Professor of Management at Swinburne University of Technology, and Felicity Marshall, Pacific Head of Workplace Consulting at CBRE.
Key findings from CBRE about work trends included:
- 92 per cent of companies have adopted hybrid work.
- The preference leans towards a “mostly office” hybrid model, with 57 per cent of companies favouring this approach.
- 54 per cent of offices expect their staff to attend the office three days a week, while 13 per cent anticipate full attendance five days a week.
Guests also heard insights from Swinburne University of Technology research into hybrid work, the four-day work week, the right to disconnect and return to office mandates
Committee for Melbourne Chief Executive Scott Veenker thanked the panellists, saying feedback on the event had been positive: “We thank CBRE for hosting the Best Practice Forum, a great panel providing some interesting insights on this critical topic.”
