26.11.2024Alstom celebrates seven decades of Dandenong manufacturing
Leading rail manufacturer Alstom celebrated its Dandenong site’s 70th anniversary in a year that also yielded two honours at the prestigious Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards.
Committee for Melbourne member Alstom has contributed to shaping Victoria’s rail industry in a lasting collaboration between the company, its workforce and the State Government.
Since its establishment, the Dandenong facility has produced more than 600 trams and 800 trains for Victoria in the past 70 years, many of which are still in service, with a few more built for export.
The site plays a crucial role in employing more than 500 direct jobs and up to 1,900 more jobs across the Victorian rail industry.
It continues to be a key partner in Victoria’s major rolling stock projects and Big Build initiatives, currently manufacturing all three of Victoria’s key rolling stock projects including Next Generation G Class Trams, X’Trapolis 2.0 metro trains and VLocity trains.
Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand said: “Victoria is the home of rail manufacturing in Australia, and Alstom’s Dandenong site is central to this legacy.
“Our contribution to Victoria’s public transport network is made possible by the skills, expertise, and dedication of our team in Australia. We are proud to continue this deep partnership with the State to deliver world-class trams and trains.”
In a milestone year Alstom received two honours at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards: Leader in Transport and Rail and Leader in Gender Diversity and Inclusion.
The company was noted for its commitment to innovation and local manufacturing, along with promoting gender equality and inclusion, fostering a diverse workforce to drive the future of Victoria’s manufacturing industry.
“We are thrilled that Alstom won two prestigious awards at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards. These recognitions are a testament to our commitment to our people, as well as the customers and communities we serve.
“Alstom is building Victoria’s city-shaping trains and trams in Dandenong and Ballarat, and we are incredibly honoured to have our key projects and ongoing contributions to the Victorian rolling stock industry recognised with the Leader in Transport and Rail Award.
“We take pride in developing our people, ensuring that diversity and inclusion remain at the heart of everything we do and are proud to take home the Leader in Gender Diversity and Inclusion Award. This award highlights our ongoing efforts to foster a workplace where everyone, regardless of gender, is empowered to thrive, contribute, and lead.”
