Meet The Lord Mayor: Sally Capp
On Thursday 21 October, the Committee held its annual Meet the Lord Mayor forum, one of the most popular events on our calendar. As part of our Road to Recovery program, this forum was open and free to both members and non-members, in the interest of allowing the wider community to hear about the Lord Mayor’s plans for shaping Melbourne’s future.
Held in our E-ROOM, the Right Honourable Sally Capp, Lord Mayor of Melbourne spoke with Martine Letts, Committee for Melbourne CEO and a panel of Melbourne leaders.
Craig Shute, Managing Director, VIC at JLL and Committee for Melbourne Board member reflected on the return of office workers and the need for us to work together to bring the CBD experience back to life.
Arts Centre Melbourne CEO and Committee for Melbourne Board member, Claire Spencer outlined how the performing arts community is poised to orchestrate the revival of the city, kicking off with the ‘Play on Victoria’ concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Andrew Westacott, CEO Australian Grand Prix Corporation, spoke about the exciting return of the Grand Prix in just six months’ time and stressed the importance of working together to reset Melbourne’s international events calendar.
The forum was held on the eve of Melbourne re-opening after 262 days of lockdown. The Lord Mayor was adamant that COVID-19 will not control of the future of our city. The City of Melbourne has committed a record budget to rebooting Melbourne through investment in hospitality, arts, events and infrastructure.
All participants and attendees agreed that hitting vaccination targets is the key to our city’s reactivation and Melbourne’s reputation on the world stage.
As a former CEO of the Committee for Melbourne, the Lord Mayor also reflected on the importance of the Committee’s work and encouraged our industry leaders to collaborate with government to ensure the success of Melbourne’s revival.
