Future Melbourne Summit

On Tuesday 15 February, we met with our members for our Future Melbourne Summit, to kick-start a conversation about our city’s future. Now is the perfect opportunity to reset and refresh Melbourne’s agenda as we emerge from the pandemic, to take full advantage of the city’s strengths and improve the foundations that will make Melbourne an even greater city.

We were honoured to be joined by The Hon. John Brumby AO who provided a keynote address, and then engaged in a conversation with Jacqueline Savage, (MedCorp Technologies and Committee for Melbourne board member). Their insights into key areas of investment and growth for the city, including commercialisation and scaling up of innovation as well as, skills of the future, set the tone for the afternoon’s discussions.

The Summit also provided an opportunity to launch our inaugural Benchmarking Melbourne Report, an independent and data driven look at Melbourne’s performance against 19 global peer cities. Dr Tim Moonen (The Business Of Cities), Annabel McFarlane (JLL) and Leanne Edwards (Committee for Melbourne) took an in depth look at the report and its findings.

Our workshop sessions led by Committee for Melbourne board members, John Dewar (La Trobe University), Craig Shute (JLL) Victoria and Roland Van Benten (Dexus) provided our members with the opportunity to help strategise and plan for the future of our great city.

While the Benchmarking Melbourne Report was released this week, the conversation shouldn’t start and end here. The Committee and its members are committed to working with government, industry and Melbourne residents to drive conversation and collaboration about what we want our city’s future to look like.

A special thanks to our Research Partner, JLL Victoria and our Communications Partner, SEC Newgate Australia for your support in the delivery of our first Benchmarking Melbourne Report.

Thank you also to our members and Event Partners, PwC and Sofitel Melbourne On Collins for supporting our Future Melbourne Summit.
