Demystifying the Digital: Libraries engaging communities in technology and online
As part of the Victorian Government’s DIF Festival 2024, we welcome you to join Committee for Melbourne and Public Libraries Victoria (PLV) for Demystifying the Digital: Libraries engaging communities in technology and online, to showcase innovative community engagement IT programs in the public library sector.
Digital literacy and inclusion have become core offerings for today’s public libraries. Providing access to technology to communities involves not only bridging the digital divide, but also demystifying the technology – for library staff as well as the communities they serve. Join us for a showcase of diverse programs involving younger people, older people and community partnerships delivered through Victoria’s public libraries.
When: Thursday 29 August 2024, 10.00am to 11.30am
Where: Online – The Committee’s E-ROOM
Public libraries provide a safe space for community members from all walks of life to try something new: in a 2022 survey of over 34,000 library users, 92% said they feel safe at the public library. Public libraries give community members access to opportunities and equipment that might otherwise be inaccessible, unaffordable and/or intimidating.
‘Demystifying the Digital’ showcases different examples of digital engagement in Victoria’s public libraries, outlining how they are conceived, delivered, and funded.
This event will be of interest to those keen to learn more about the opportunities available to partner with public libraries to deliver innovative digital programs and services across the life span.
