Blue skies ahead: the future of Victoria’s aviation industry

Committee for Melbourne, along with it’s members, discussed what the future of the global aviation industry is, and what it means for our airports, communities and economies so reliant on aviation for passenger movement and freight.

How can Victoria attract our airline partners back as they carefully prioritise their routes? How quickly can we return to the capacity needed?

A special thanks to our expert panel, Lorie Argus, Chief of Aviation, Melbourne Airport, Louis Arul, Vice President Partnerships & International Relations, Singapore Airlines, Unni Menon, Executive Director Aviation Strategy and Services, Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions and Lyell Strambi, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Australia Pacific Airports Corporation, who provided a fascinating assessment and keynote address.

Together, we explored:

  • Returning to capacity post COVID-19
  • The importance of our airports to Melbourne’s brand and tourism
  • How the global aviation sector is viewing Melbourne
  • The impact of Sydney’s increased aviation capacity
  • The third runway and progress on Melbourne Airport Rail Link

After the panel session, members and guests had the opportunity to engage in an interactive Q&A with the panel, and to share their insights on our collective road to recovery.
