Ms Pru Sanderson
VicUrbanMs. Sanderson joined VicUrban in June 2006. Prior to this Ms. Sanderson was CEO of Monash Property Management Pty Ltd, a company owned by Monash University responsible for the planning and development of the University’s vast infrastructure projects (including extensive new campuses in Malaysia and South Africa and a $100 million Science and Technology Precinct in Melbourne).
Ms. Sanderson is an honours graduate in architecture and has specialised throughout her career in the planning and delivery of major public infrastructure projects, including Federation Square and the award-winning Melbourne Museum.
Ms. Sanderson started her career 25 years ago as a Conservation Architect, and was a director of the prominent firm, Allom Lovell Sanderson Pty Ltd, and worked on significant historic sites including Parliament House, Werribee Park and Como.
As Design Manager for the Melbourne Museum project, she prepared the competition brief for the international architectural design competition and managed the team during the design development of this $300 million Melbourne landmark.
Ms. Sanderson was instrumental in the conceptual planning of key innovations in the new museum, such as the Forest Gallery and the Aboriginal cultural gallery, Bunjilaka.
Ms. Sanderson moved on to local government and was appointed to the City of Melbourne in the newly-created position of head of Project Management.
Projects included the creation of the Turning Basin on the Yarra River, the refurbishment of North Melbourne Town Hall into a community arts complex, and a major native landscaping initiative in Royal Park, Parkville.
Ms. Sanderson was subsequently appointed as the General Manager of Operations at the City of Whitehorse, with responsibility for managing 11 diverse businesses for this 150,000 strong community.
Ms. Sanderson was the Manager of Development and Operations for Melbourne’s $500 million Federation Square project where she was responsible for the outputs of the design and construction teams over the final two years of the project.
Ms. Sanderson has a keen interest in environmental design. She was a member of the Green Building Mission, instigated by Victoria’s Building Commission in 2003. Ms. Sanderson ’s environmental interests also extended to her role as a Director of the Zoological Parks and Gardens Board, responsible for Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary.
She also serves on the National Advisory Board of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia (IPA).
