Mr George Pappas

George has a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours from Monash University (1968) and an MBA, with Distinction, from Harvard Business School (1971).

After graduation from Harvard Business School, George joined the international management consulting firm, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Boston, later moving to Tokyo. He returned to Australia and co-founded Pappas Carter Evans and Koop (PCEK) in 1979. Over the next ten years, PCEK became the leading Australian management consultancy providing strategic advice to the top management of our largest companies. Following BCG’s acquisition of PCEK in 1990, George became Managing Partner of BCG’s Australasian offices and a member of BCG’s worldwide Executive Committee. He also served on other worldwide committees for BCG, including the Chairmanship of the selection committee for Senior Vice-Presidents.

George’s commercial experience has been developed over 30 years from strategy consulting work for the largest companies in the United States, Japan, Asia and Australia. As Chairman of the Committee for Melbourne, he leads a group whose members comprise the city’s most influential companies and institutions. He has personally led the Committee’s effort to support new and innovative industry development, including greater access to expansion capital for high growth businesses. Apart from his role at the Committee for Melbourne, George is currently Chancellor of Victoria University, Chairman of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Monash Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the Defence Strategic Reform Advisory Board and a Senior Advisor of BCG having retired as a Senior Vice President in June 2002.

From 2003 to 2005, George was engaged as Under Secretary in the Department of Premier and Cabinet for the State of Victoria, leading a project to develop the State’s future economic strategy. He is also Vice Chairman of the BioMelbourne Network, a Director of the Western Bulldogs Football Club, and Commodore of the Point Leo Boat Club. George has previously been a Member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Monash Faculty of Business and Economics and Vice-Chairman of the Monash University Medical Foundation.
