What has struck me about Melbourne, since coming back, is the energy and confidence the city now exudes. The enthusiasm amongst the tourism and business events industry, Government and the citizens is palpable.

Melburnians are rightly proud of their home town which has truly become a global city.

The place is alive with interesting events, architecture, innovation, and new infrastructure. I love Fed Square – what a clever bit of “Imagineering” ade reality!

People here are very forward looking and both the public and private sector take a wholistic approach to their plans for the city. Amongst the city’s key decision makers there is a sense that anything is possible.

I was very impressed that post the Commonwealth Games people weren’t sitting around patting themselves on the back, instead everybody was looking for the next big thing for Melbourne.

Melbourne is envied as a model for collaboration. I had always thought this was a bit of hype until moving back here, but it’s true. I have never worked with as many so called bureaucrats who are as commercially focussed and grasp the big picture. Everybody wants to help and almost everybody follows up and delivers what they promise.

It’s been one of the reasons the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau has been so successful in winning international conventions for the city – in fact Melbourne is currently ranked Number 22 convention city in the world!

Other impressions. Melbourne truly is the sporting, fashion, design and nightlife capital of Australia. The options are endless, first class and fun!

Melbourne feels like it’s finally come into its own and that even greater achievements lie ahead – and why not we have the energy, the support and the smarts to make it all happen.
