As a relative new comer to this wonderful city, I enjoy the discovery each day of new delights, new facts and new inspirations.

You cannot just “live” in Melbourne; you are drawn into the city’s essence, becoming part of it, contributing to its diversity, charm and history. Whatever your wish, whatever your passion…a part of Melbourne is there to satisfy.

A keen walker, the parks and gardens situated throughout Melbourne provide a sanctuary from the busy pace of city life, each having their own distinctive feel and attraction. It is not only their beauty, but the mix of history and multiculturalism that surprise…tai chi classes, bocce tournaments, the stately elegance of the Exhibition Buildings or the fascination of the Melbourne International Flower Show.

A pleasant surprise for me on arriving in Melbourne was the beaches and the number of activities centred on and near the water. Southbank, St Kilda and the Docklands all add an extra dimension to working, relaxing and travelling in the city.

Melbourne radiates life. The Queen Victoria Market is like a city within a city, always alive, loud and boisterous and full of characters. The city lanes hide secret shopping delights, eclectic galleries and music venues to suit everyone. The restaurant and café scene is an endless temptation…how wonderful to be able to eat in virtually a different country every night!

I love Melbourne for its diversity not only of its people but also its events and streetscapes. Whether it be a laugh at the Comedy Festival; enjoying the rich culture of the National Gallery of Victoria and the many theatre productions; cheering sporting greats at the MCG or celebrating the unusual as part of the Fringe Festival…for me, they make Melbourne my new home.

I believe that Melbourne is a city for the people, encouraging you to belong, contribute, engage and take pride in being part of a community with a shared sense of purpose, compassion and respect.

I am glad to be part of all that is Melbourne.
