Ms Catherine Mission
Melbourne Girls' GrammarMelbourne has proved an exceptional city in which to live, work and raise three children. This quality of life rests upon a culture that is eloquent in its pace and which values social and family activities. Whilst we moved away from the beaches and sandstone cliffs of eastern Sydney we have embraced the river, gardens and recreational advantages of South Yarra and the inner city. Indeed, after 12 months my teenage children have no passion to be anywhere else.
Educational opportunities are palpable in Melbourne. My role as Principal of a girls school within this incredible city has enabled me to appreciate the immediacy and world class standards of its cultural resources. Within a tram’s ride, our students have the National Gallery of Victoria, Federation Square, the Arts Centre and a diversity of other landmarks. When our students want to swim, run or play netball they have MSAC, Olympic Park and the State Netball Centre. Beyond their VCE studies their destinations include universities with strong reputations for their graduate programs, their research initiatives and their distinguished alumni.
On a personal note, my husband and I are enjoying the many parks and bike tracks that support our mid life fitness regimes. When not exercising we of course sample the cuisine of a city that knows how to put food and wine in its appropriate place – well made, well loved and eaten leisurely in good company.
