How exciting to see two long term Foundation Members of the Committee for Melbourne coming together to provide a major investment that will help shape Melbourne’s future.

La Trobe University link has announced Plenary Group as its preferred Master Development Partner for its ambitious $5B redevelopment plan to transform Melbourne’s north.

Plenary, a proudly Melbourne based public infrastructure investor, developer and manager, has been chosen to deliver the $5 billion University City of the Future Plan which will see the 235-hectare Bundoora campus transformed into a vibrant city.

The La Trobe development will include a Research and Innovation Precinct, world-class sporting and sports research facilities, a major health and wellbeing hub and new commercial, retail and residential developments.

La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor and Committee for Melbourne Board member Professor John Dewar AO noted that Plenary has extensive experience in leading a range of complex, large-scale projects, along with sharing the university’s cultural values.

The 10-to-20-year redevelopment project aims to create education facilities for more than 40,000 students and become an economic and social hub in Melbourne’s north, featuring sports amenities and research facilities, a health and wellbeing hub and new commercial, retail and residential developments

“We’re excited to be partnering with the Plenary team to accelerate this ambitious plan, bringing innumerable benefits to our staff and students, as well as industry, partners and the wider community”, said Professor Dewar.
David Lamming, Plenary Chief Executive, said the project will redefine how university precincts are designed, developed and delivered.

“We see opportunities in student housing and commercial. It will help to cement La Trobe as a global University of choice for students and staff, increase engagement with government, industry and the community, and showcase it as a sustainability exemplar,” he said.

In the Committee for Melbourne’s Member Survey this month, innovation precincts, the importance of our education sector and international students ranked highly on our agenda and this project is an exciting development for greater Melbourne.

This announcement comes on the back of last week’s Melbourne Achiever Award going to the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and VCCC Alliance – which was designed, delivered and now managed by the Plenary group.
