Published in our Special Edition: Road to Recovery Communique on the 2 April 2020

Welcome to our special edition Communique in which our Chair Scott Tanner and CEO Martine Letts share with you some reflections on how we can collaborate for resilience and recovery.

The Committee was formed in the 1980s by civic minded business leaders when Melbourne experienced its last major economic crisis. Once again, our mission of “Shaping a better future for Melbourne” is a call to action. The extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves remind us of the interconnectedness of our world and the common destiny we face. That said, our heritage and home is in Melbourne, and from here we can do our part to help the state and our nation chart a course of recovery.

We are having an extra-long Easter and will reopen for business on 20 April

The Committee for Melbourne has made our staff’s health and well-being our number one priority. We have immediately changed our work practices to ensure that all are safe, as we navigate this rapidly evolving COVID-19 crisis.

The Board’s and CEO’s attention must now turn to ensuring that the great work of the Committee can continue into the future – most especially as we emerge from this crisis.

We are making real progress with new platforms, with our messaging and with our person-to-person contact program where we are reaching out to one member at a time during this difficult period. Everyone has stepped up magnificently to help us transition smoothly to this “new normal”.

We also need to start taking some belt tightening measures now to secure our future operations. Every employer around the country is doing the same

As a first step, and following the example of a number of other organisations, we will extend our Easter Break for the full week following Easter Monday, 13 April. We will reopen for business on Monday 20 April.

We wish you all a very Happy and Safe Easter.
